Session Overview

Lateral Violence is a way of “putting someone in their place” or ”cutting them down to size” or showing them that “they’re too big for their boots.” It is a way of keeping them down, and maintaining the lowest common denominator rather than rising up and moving beyond.

In this session, Sharon and Alan will focus on the main features of lateral violence; what exactly feeds this cycle of oppression; various forms of lateral violence and the disheartening effect it has on individuals and groups. They will highlight key techniques on how to overcome lateral violence in a fun and interactive environment that excludes any finger-pointing. Participants will have an opportunity to experience what works and what doesn’t through role play, and apply these valuable tools within their current life dynamics.
